Victoria Beckham reflects on her marriage, describing David’s alleged affair as the most challenging period

Victoria Beckham opens up about her marriage, stating that the alleged affair involving husband David was the most challenging time for them. The couple has consistently refuted allegations of his infidelity during his time with Real Madrid in 2003.

“It was the hardest time for us because it felt like the whole world was against us,” the former Spice Girl said in Netflix’s latest documentary.

“The thing is – if I’m being completely honest – we were against each other.”

The couple doesn’t discuss the details of what happened in the documentary, titled Beckham, which was released on Wednesday.

But Victoria said “You know, before Atletico Madrid, sometimes it felt like we were against other people. But we were together, we were connected, we had each other.

“But when we were in Spain we didn’t feel like we had each other either and that was sad.”

She went on to say, “I can’t tell you how hard that was and how much it affected me.”

Speaking about the media attention after she and her children moved to Spain to join her husband, she added: “It was a nightmare. From the moment we opened the media came in their cars and we were followed everywhere we went.

“It’s definitely a circus – it’s really funny when the circus comes into town, isn’t it? Unless you’re in the middle of it.”

When the singer-turned-designer was asked if she resented her husband at the time, she replied: “Honestly, I did resent him.

“It was probably the unhappiest time of my life, to be honest.”

In the series, the former England and Manchester United midfielder – now the owner of Inter Miami – also spoke about how speculation about his extramarital affairs had affected him and his family.

“There are some horrible stories,” he said, “and it’s hard to deal with.” This is the first time Victoria and I have been under this kind of pressure in our marriage.

A review of the serial noted that producers were “vague” when it came to David’s alleged infidelity.

“Posh and Becks are happy to talk about any number of topics such as arguments with Fergie, vulgar singing, THAT red card, sarongs and matching purple wedding dresses, but director Fisher Stevens keeps a friendly eye on the trickier subjects.

The documentary is “a candid, engaging truth about the life of a soccer player.”

“This absolutely star-studded feature is a fun gossip show full of candid, entertaining interviews,” writes Rebecca Nicholson.” Every episode flies by.”

“Full marks for a wonderful, intimate, sometimes heartbreaking portrait of a surprisingly complex man.”

Eschewing the trend of sports documentaries being little more than PR campaigns, Beckham charts David’s career and family life.

The Beckhams, who tied the knot in 1999, attended the London premiere of the series on Tuesday with their four children in tow.
